Expandable graphite
Expandable graphite expands rapidly when heated to high temperatures, with expansion ratios reaching tens, hundreds, or even thousands of times. After expansion, the apparent volume of the graphite reaches 250-300 ml/g or greater. The expanded graphite exhibits a worm-like shape, ranging in size from a few millimeters to several millimeters, and possesses a unique network of micropores within, hence the name expanded graphite or graphite worms. Expandable graphite possesses many unique and superior properties.
Expandable graphite and its expanded derivatives can be used in a wide range of industries, including steel, metallurgy, petroleum, chemical machinery, aerospace, and nuclear energy. For example, expandable graphite can be used as a flame retardant in fire-retardant plastic products, fire-retardant and antistatic coatings, and other flame-retardant composite materials and products.
Expandable graphite can also be used as a multi-band smoke generator and stealth shielding material, widely applied in the military field; flexible graphite products made from expandable graphite are hailed as the “King of Sealing.” Expandable graphite holds a crucial position in the fields of mechanical seals and fireproof sealing materials. In environmental protection, it can be used as an oil-absorbing material for waste oil recovery and as a microbial carrier in wastewater treatment.
Expandable graphite is a flexible graphite product obtained through special modification treatment of high-quality natural flake graphite produced by our company. It is an ideal new type of sealing material with wide applications in dynamic and precision sealing in industries such as petroleum, chemical, power, aviation, automotive, shipbuilding, and instrumentation.
After high-temperature instantaneous treatment, the flake-like structure of expandable graphite transforms into a worm-like shape, expanding in volume by 100 to 400 times. This expanded graphite retains the characteristics of natural graphite and possesses excellent molding plasticity, flexibility, ductility, and sealing properties. It is a high-quality raw material for various graphite sheets and seals, and can also be used in the metallurgical industry as a new type of protective slag and heating agent.
